Mr. Cavorley teaches Chemistry and Earth Science at AOHT.

Formally trained as a chemist, astronomer and local historian with degrees from both Wagner College (BS) and Hunter College (MS), I have worked within the education field for 15 years as museum educator, and 7 years as a private/public school teacher. During my time as an museum educator at Historic Richmond Town (which I still continue as a side job), I have taught 18th century dancing, a hands-on blacksmith apprentice workshop over the summers, and designed several local history and folklore tours. Additionally, I have served on the editorial committee for the historical society’s scholarly journal, The Staten Island Historian, and have authored several articles both in the journal, as well as contributed to several books.

As a school teacher, I have taught most sciences over the years, focusing mainly on chemistry and earth science courses in the last several years. I believe in a strong focus of real-world examples, observations & experimentation within the classroom. I have currently been working at AOHT for 2 years teaching both of these subjects, as well as Multimedia Club, which is being developed together with interested students.
